The weather is simply not cooperating with our needs to prepare for inspection. Based on the ongoing winter storm situation, I am cancelling the make-up drill scheduled for 13 February. I am calling on all personnel to be as flexible as possible and prepared to work hard during February’s drill as that Saturday will be the only day we have to prepare for inspection. Contact your chain of command with any questions or issues prior to drill.

Corsairs, Excellent job today with the flexibility and professionalism to both adapt the drill schedule to the weather AND still manage to get in the required training. Unfortunately, the weather situation is still fairly poor and safety of all our personnel comes first. For that reason, I am cancelling drill for Sunday, 31 Jan 2010. As discussed today and in an earlier email, we will be holding an additional “make-up” drill on 13 February to help prepare for inspection. Details on what will be required for this drill will go out in the next couple of days. Additionally, we will be looking at our upcoming schedule to identify possible dates to use the EST so those of you who attended today’s class will still have the opportunity to qualify. Contact your chain of command if there are any additional questions.

We will be watching the weather as it relates to Tropical Storm Danny this weekend. Drill will be held as scheduled unless the storm gives us reason to cancel or cut short the weekend. The Message Center will be updated each morning to reflect the current status. Unless posted otherwise, assume drill to be held in accordance with the Plan of the Month.

Corsairs – This weekend is our last drill before summer training. Some of you may still be missing items you need for your sea bags for training. I need to know first thing Saturday morning what uniform items you need. All cadets are to provide this information to their LPOs and/or Division Officers by morning formation on Saturday. If you will not arrive at drill before formation, make sure your LPO or Division Officer has this information to pass to the Supply Department. Requests for uniform items received after Saturday morning formation will probably not be filled. Supply personnel will not be coming to Andrews again until the August drill, so if you don’t get your uniform items this weekend, you will not get them until August. Again, let me emphasize that I must have your list of all necessary uniform items by morning formation this Saturday. If you have any questions, please contact me and cc your LPO and Division Officer. Regards, ENS Trish White Supply Officer Central Maryland Corsairs Squadron United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps

Corsairs, Our host command, the Naval Air Facility, has asked us to provide volunteers to help them at a Relay for Life charity event this Friday in Waldorf. I'm encouraging as many personnel as possible to participate. I'm still working on details (such as EXACT location), but plan the uniform being PT gear with Corsairs ball cap. The event is 24 hours long, but we are not expected to be present the whole time. Information straight from NAF is below: Volunteers are scheduled to arrive around 12 PM on 12 June. I know this my be difficult for the cadets, therefore, anytime that they can arrive is fine. It is a 24 hour relay, but we only ask that the cadets assist when and how they can. We will need assistance with parking and logistics. Some of the logistics involved may range from assisting personnel locate their assigned places on the field and shuttling supplies for the various relay committee groups. All volunteers are to inform their Division Officers of intent to participate. Division Officers: Ensure maximum distribution of this information.

Below are the details for the Pax River Air Show on 23-24 MAY. CPL Wileman will be on site OIC on Saturday 23 MAY. INST Green will be on site OIC on Sunday 24 MAY. Their contact information is listed below along with a link to the air show website. All personnel will enter the base through Gate 2. On Saturday CPL Wileman will be at the security checkpoint inside of Gate 2 from 0930-1000 to meet cadets. From there he will issue instructions to cadets as the situation and events for the day dictate. Any cadet that has questions concerning Saturday should contact CPL Wileman via email. The CPL’s cell phone number is listed for problems that occur on the day of the air show or for cadets that arrive late and want to link up with the rest of the element. On Sunday INST Green will be inside of Gate 2 at the security checkpoint from 0900-0930 to meet cadets. He will provide further instructions at that time. Any questions concerning Sunday should be sent to INST Green via email. The INST’s cell phone number is listed for problems that occur on the day of the air show or for cadets that arrive late and want to link up with the rest of the element. Uniform of the day for cadets is dress whites for NSCC and salt and peppers for NLCC. For cadets that have not been issued dress uniforms they will wear their Corsairs PT shirt with black or khaki slacks. The goal for the weekend is to make people aware of the NSCC/NLCC program. There is currently no Sea Cadet presence at Pax River. There are many resources there that we are missing out on because no one knows who we are. Represent the squadron and the cadet corps well. Make sure to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen. This is not a squadron sponsored event. The squadron will not provide transportation to or from the base on either day. Chow on both days will also be the responsibility of the cadet. Plan accordingly. Officially due to the original lack of enthusiasm that I received there are no scheduled events set up for the cadet element. The onsite OIC will work possibilities while down there so remain flexible and have a good time representing the squadron and the cadet corps as a whole. I can be contacted with questions up until Friday night. I will not be on site either day. If you said you will be attending on the pre drill muster and now know that you will not be attending, contact either myself or the on site OIC before the end of the week. Memorial Day Parade details:

All hands are to report to the assembly area by 1100. Assembly area is on 7th Street between Constitution and Madison (next to the National Gallery of Art). We do not have Squadron transportation available for this event, so transportation is on each individual. If you drive into town, get there early as many parking areas will either be closed or full. If you are taking the Metrol, the National Archives/Navy Memorial stop is closest. Once everyone is on site, we will begin the division of effort among our various groups at the parade. This includes the marching element, color guard, flag carrying, and sideline activities. The purpose of meeting early is give us time to bring Cadets from multiple units together into one cohesive group and provide some time for our own practice, especially with the color guard. Starfighters: I will have all color guard equipment on site, so you do not need to bring anything special. The color guard will be a joint event with other units, so only a couple of you will actually be in the color guard this time. Uniform of the day is Dress Whites for NSCC Cadets, Salt and Peppers for NLCC Cadets, Summer Whites for Officers, and appropriate dress uniforms for Drill Instructors. Personnel who show up out of uniform (for example: no flashes, missing uniform items, etc) will not be allowed to participate, so make sure your uniforms are squared away. For Sundowners that have not been issued dress uniforms yet, you may wear your Squadron PT shirt with black or khaki slacks. There will be support on the sidelines needed and non-uniformed personnel will be working that effort. Lunch and water will be on site. You should still have a good breakfast and stay hydrated before the parade. The parade starts at 1400 and we are close to front, so we should start soon afterwards. I expect us to be back at the assembly area by 1600 if everything runs smoothly. Cadets should make pick-up arrangements accordingly. If there are any questions, direct them to the CO.
